Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are TerraCycle Recycling Reward points?
    • Rewards you can earn in exchange for recycling in our programs; you can redeem these for cash donations to your school! That’s real cash that you can use towards sports programs, classroom supplies, competition fees, and anything else your school needs! You can find out more here.
    • Different programs offer different amounts of points per pound you send in, and some programs have a minimum shipment weight requirement to earn points (a 5 pound minimum to earn 100 points per pound, for example), so make sure you check the specifics of each program on the program page so you can maximize your rewards!
  • How many points do schools earn during this promotion?
    • Schools earn triple the cash for every valid shipment in select free recycling programs.* That means if you ship in a program that normally earns $1 (or, 100 points) a pound, you now earn $3!
  • What is the value of my points?
    • 100 points = $1.00, 500 points = $5.00, 2,500 points = $25, and so on. You can save up as much as you’d like before you pay yourself out, and the minimum you need to have saved to start redeeming is 2,500 points, or $25.
  • Is there a limit to how much I can earn?
    • There is no limit to how much you can earn! You can join as many programs and recycle as much hard-to-recycle trash as you want, all for free. We do ask that you adhere to the guidelines of each program and ship compliantly to ensure that we can keep providing our solutions to as many people and schools as possible.
  • I just sent my shipment. Where are my points?
    • They’re on their way! Once you send us a shipment using the prepaid shipping label, our warehouse operations receives your package, weighs it, then checks it into our computer system, which then feeds into the standard points you’ll see in your account profile. The rest will be awarded as bonus points, so please expect a slight delay.
    • Please also note that our team checks compliance for all shipments in order to properly recycle the trash we receive, and this process takes time. Just like in school, cheating doesn’t pay—and may result in your shipments not earning points.
  • How do I redeem the cash for my school?
    • First, your school must be registered in our charity database so that you can donate your earnings to your school, and friends, family, and the community can do the same!
    • Sign in to check for your school in our charity database here; if your school isn’t listed, request to add your school here. You’ll need the Tax ID number (optional), mailing address, and contact information for the school you would like to add. Please note we aren't looking for home addresses or personal phone numbers. If your school's information is filled out incorrectly, your request may be rejected. More on this here.
*Valid shipments must be in the select free recycling programs and meet the minimum shipment weight requirements to earn cash awards. All awards are points equivalent. Payments occur on a biweekly basis. Click here to view official contest rules.
**Leaderboard measured by number of shipments from schools in select programs checked in vs. volume, weight, or points earned.
