How to become a public drop-off point
Simply request to join this programme, and once you are confirmed, your location will show up on the public drop-off point map. Set up boxes that community members can fill with their rubbish to be recycled, and send full boxes to TerraCycle at no cost to you.
This programme has strict shipping guidelines due to the transportation of batteries. Please read through this check list before shipping them to us:
- Maximum of four (4) e-cigarettes per parcel - this is a postal safety requirement for transporting devices with batteries. However, you can send as many pods as you like!
- Ensure batteries are discharged - ensure your e-cigarettes have no charge left in them
- Do not disassemble - eep batteries inside e-cigarettes
- Pack your waste in a cardboard box - do not use a bag or satchel
- Remove all liquids - ensure pods and bottles are empty
Collect with Your Community
Once your location is approved as a public drop-off point, community members will be able to find it on the map and drop-off their rubbish to be recycled.
Print Free Shipping Labels
When a box is full, sign in to your TerraCycle account to download and print a prepaid shipping label.
Ship
Seal the box, affix the prepaid shipping label, and send it to us to be recycled.

It’s quite simple to set up and manage a public drop-off point, and you can recruit a group of friends to help!
Set Up:

Choose a location and receive permission if needed.

Update a new or existing TerraCycle account profile with details about your public drop-off point.

Request to join the programmes you would like to participate in.

Once you’ve been approved for the programmes you requested, set up your public drop-off point location.
Manage:

Oversee the location (check it is being used properly, that rubbish is being shipped when collection boxes are filled).

When boxes are filled, seal them, download and affix the prepaid labels, and drop off the boxes at a New Zealand Post.

Continue to join programmes of your choosing.
Promote: Spread awareness about your drop-off point (as you see fit) to encourage participation.
Allocate: As you accumulate TerraCycle recycling rewards, choose which charities will receive donations from your points.

Public spaces that have good traffic flow and are easily accessible are excellent public drop-off points. Stores, community centers, places of worship, and libraries are great options.
You choose which TerraCycle free recycling programmes your public drop-off point will participate in. Collectors can drop off only the rubbish accepted in those TerraCycle programmes.

We’ve made getting started with the VapeCycle Free Recycling Programme easy! Simply download a free shipping label to ship your used vaping products to TerraCycle, and we’ll recycle them.

Please note that strict shipping requirements apply if sending back e-cigarettes for recycling. Refer to our shipping checklist in the Resources section for details.
The programme does not accept:
- Vaping products from other brands
Outer cardboard packaging can be recycled with your local council, so please don’t include this in your shipment to TerraCycle.

No, you do not need to clean the packaging before dropping it off for recycling, but please remove as much of the remaining product as possible before shipping. New Zealand Post will not accept dripping items, so please make sure your items are dry.

Discover Our Recycling Process
Once collected, the e-cigarettes are dismantled and separated into metals/electrical components, batteries and plastics. The plastics are then shredded and melted into pellets that can be remoulded to make new recycled products while the metals are separated and recovered.
