Sistema Recycled Playground Contest FAQ

1. What is the Sistema Recycled Playground Contest?

The Sistema Recycled Playground Contest is an exciting initiative where primary schools can win a playground with a frame made of 100% recycled materials–including recycled food containers–as well as a Sistema food container and a reusable bottle for each of their pupils (T&Cs apply.) The contest encourages schools to collect used food containers and reusable plastic water bottles, which are then sent to TerraCycle for recycling. The school that sends in the most items wins the playground. The contest-winning school and the runner-up will also receive Sistema food containers and reusable bottles to share with their pupils.

2. How long does the contest run?

The contest starts on 4th September 2024 and runs until 18th December.

3. Who can participate in the contest?

Only an authorised representative of a primary school (e.g., headteacher or deputy headteacher) can sign up said school to the contest, by signing the Letter of Agreement and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions.

4. How can our school register for the contest?

To register for the contest, schools need to create a TerraCycle account and sign up for the Food Storage Container and Reusable Bottle Free Recycling Programme. Once registered, schools can fill out the contest form and agree to the terms and conditions.

Make sure you have permission to set up a recycling hub on school grounds. You can set up multiple drop-off points at your school (e.g., reception, teacher’s lounge, or classrooms). But, we recommend you only use one account to manage them. It will make the shipping process easier, all your points will be under the same account, and you’ll have a greater chance to win a playground and our other great prizes.

5. What items can we recycle for the contest?

Schools can collect and send in food containers and reusable plastic water bottles from any brand. These items will be recycled by TerraCycle as part of the contest.

6. How can we track our progress in the contest?

During the contest, participants can track their progress on the leaderboard available on the contest page. The leaderboard will be updated monthly, showing the points earned based on the weight of the shipments sent in.

7. What are the prizes for winning the contest?

The winning school will receive a new playground made with a frame made of 100% recycled materials–including recycled food containers. The playground will be installed at the winning school.

The pupils of the contest-winning school and the runner-up will also receive a Sistema food container and a reusable bottle (T&Cs apply.)

8. How will the winners be selected?

The winner of the playground will be the school that sends in the most items, measured by shipment weight, during the contest period. Points are assigned per shipment based on its weight, with 1 kg equaling 100 points.

Based on the same criteria, the top 2 schools that send in the most items will each receive 300 Sistema food containers and 300 reusable bottles.

9. What are the benefits of participating in the contest?

Participating in the contest helps schools engage in sustainable practices and teach students about the importance of recycling. Additionally, schools have the chance to win a playground with a frame made of 100% recycled materials–including recycled food containers–as well as a Sistema food container and a reusable bottle for each of your pupils (T&Cs apply.)

10. How can parents and staff get involved in the contest?

Parents and staff can get involved in the contest by collecting and bringing food containers and reusable plastic water bottles to the school. Every item contributes to the school's chances of winning the playground.

11. How will the playground be installed at the winning school?

Once the winner is announced, the playground will be installed at the winning school.

12. How will the winning school and runner-up get the additional prizes?

Sistema will deliver 300 food containers and 300 reusable bottles to the winning school and the runner-up, respectively. To facilitate this, we will pass on the contact details and delivery addresses of both the winning school and the runner-up to Sistema.
