Start a drop-off point

You or your group can be a recycling hero for your community! Volunteer to start your own TerraCycle public drop-off point—a community hub where people can drop off their unrecyclables–trash that is not typically accepted by local recycling services. We guarantee we recycle all accepted waste!

It’s easy (and free!), and you could make a big difference. Sending larger shipments of waste at once is better for the planet, plus you’ll get rewarded with all the TerraCycle points for the waste you send in for recycling.

As a public drop-off point administrator, you or your group will handle the following:

  1. Choosing a drop-off location for hard-to-recycle waste for your community members.
  2. Joining eligible TerraCycle free recycling programs.
  3. Setting up a collection area and keeping an eye on it.
  4. Sending hard-to-recycle waste to TerraCycle (with prepaid shipping labels) for recycling.

Choose your approach: Listed or Unlisted

There are two simple options for starting a public drop-off point: listed or unlisted. One difference between the options is whether or not your location will be listed on TerraCycle’s public drop-off map. The other difference is the programs you can join.

Start a drop-off point as an organization or group

Anyone can start a TerraCycle public drop-off point, from individuals to schools to businesses to any type of community group. It’s easy to start and manage a TerraCycle drop-off point, but you can make it even easier by sharing the work. Plus, you can earn money for your school, charity, or nonprofit group through your recycling efforts. Learn more about ways to recycle with TerraCycle for your community.

How to redeem your TerraCycle Recycling Rewards

You’ll earn TerraCycle points for the hard-to-recycle trash you send in for recycling from your public drop-off point. These points will automatically be added to your TerraCycle account for eligible shipments. Redeem your points as a cash donation to the school, charity, or nonprofit of your choice (even your own community organization, religious group, school, etc!). Click here to learn how to redeem TerraCycle points, add a new charity to our database, and more
